He does most of our ads! |
He takes up a whole truck bed by himself. But my wife insists we bring him along. |
He's a die-hard Ravens Football fan. |
My brother first bought the bull to use in the early Pit Beef Row days. You could see him back in the late 1990's on the corner of Chesaco Avenue and Pulaski Highway outside our then-pit beef stand. He's a real old hunting blind made of fiberglass. They probably stopped making his model because he tips over quite often when the wind blows a certain way. He first got famous in the NY Times article in 2000 when his photo appeared in the article.
Here he was in his original article debut. |
Now he acts like a superstar. Like you can't tell it's him...pulllleasseeeee! |
My brother lent him to another pit beef place and made a deal to sell him. When my wife Cindy found out, she blew a gasket and wanted him back. She thought "he was cute" and actually cried over losing the bull. Now this proved to be a real problem because he was on top the roof of a building. The new guy was supposed to be paying for him the following week. I suppose you could say she was in a bidding war just to get our bull back. Much to my disagreement she went and paid my brother more than the other guy would just to get him back. The next day horns honked on Jarrettsville Pike to see two guys lowering a giant bull from a roof.
He sat in our backyard for a year and I would often catch her out there talking to him. She started fixing up his fiberglass cracks and restoring him to his once famous luster. She then wanted to use his logo on our shirts and cups, and just about everything. I told her he wasn't going on the road with us, or going to be on our shirts, NO WAY!
The bull and my wife won, and now he goes with us some times.
Soon he was in the back of our pickup truck or trailer and is on our shirts. People wave and beep when they see him. His eyes lightup and I guess I've grown to love him too. The best part is when kids write me letters or get their photos taken with the bull. It's something cool to see. I'm glad my wife was right...........find the bull and find us!
I almost forgot, we dress him up on holidays.
